Dear Strong Friends, this one is for you

Shoutout to the ‘Strong Friends,” this is for you! I would like to think every friend is somehow a strong friend, but this is for the friends that’s busy checking on everyone else besides themselves. This is for the ones that haven’t been feeling like themselves for some time now. This is for the ones that wipe their tears away, so others won’t see them.

I am the strong friend 24/7, so I get it. We bottle things up, we even cry in places we’d never get caught, we never talk about our feelings out loud, we do a GREAT job at filtering our emotions, but yet we still finding the strength to still push through with a smile. I get it! It’s hard to ask for help. If you are anything like me it’s super hard to put your problems on other people. However, I am here to tell you it is SO necessary. Have you ever heard the saying it takes a village to raise a child? Well .. it takes a strong community of genuine friendships to help you become the best you can be.

I cannot stress enough how important it is to show your strong friend how much you care. One of the benefits of being a great friend is helping support a healthy mental state, encouraging, sharing the ups and downs about this “unpredictable’ thing called LIFE. If anything, this pandemic has taught me to check on myself along with the people that mean the world to me.

Earlier this year, I had the opportunity to sit down with just my thoughts and talk with Marcus about…a variety of subjects. We talked about expectations within a friendship, how are some things you need from a friendship in your adult life, what the future holds for our old “unintentional” friendships, and so much more. By the end of our talk I felt as though we both are considered the Strong Strong Friends.

These past few years have shown us the brutal reality that most people are caught up in themselves, we’ve all heard of “People make time for what they want to make time for”. And, you know what, I’ve become okay with the reality that part of my purpose is to continue to let God use me in a way that helps encourage others to grow, lead and to dream bigger   despite my own personal hardships.

Bottom line: Don’t forget to check-in on the people who support you. It may be your mother, father, sister, brother, spouse, best friend, or co-worker. They probably need you just as much as you need them, even if they have trouble expressing it.
